Characters

In costume Lee Weaver answers audience questions as the characters who knew Jesus 2000 years ago. But catch him in a coat and tie and you'll be enriched by one who knows Jesus today, whether giving his humorous and uplifting account of David and Goliath or preaching on the Transfiguration or the "Music of Our Faith." Come with us now on a journey through time and discover some of the characters Lee Weaver portrays.

Judas

It is Good Friday morning. From out of the shadows a figure emerges. He appears restless, even frightened. He's startled to see that you are looking at him. He explains that he did not sleep last night, and as he dresses, he tells you that he is preparing to go and find the priests -- to see what he can do now.

His name is Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve. He explains to you what happened last night in Gethsemane, how he kissed Jesus in order to "identify" him. Wistfully, he recounts the miracles, the things he saw with his own eyes; he explains his frustration and his decision to betray. With anguish he details the Last Supper and the events leading to the crucifixion.

And he makes you think. You might reconsider your feelings about him. You might even identify with him. But before he runs off -- this complicated man, this tortured soul -- you will be moved.

Joseph

He is hunched, a man in his autumn years. As he approaches, you can see that he has some difficulty moving. He does not appear to be a wealthy man, but something in his eyes tells you that he is pleased with his lot.

His name is Joseph -- and he is a very proud father. He speaks lovingly of how he met Mary and how he knew "She was the one." With great joy he recalls their trip to Jerusalem when Jesus was twelve. Awed, he explains how he discovered that his own boy was "born to set our people free."

With Joseph you'll go to Jerusalem, to Egypt and to the Bethlehem stable, joining the angel, the shepherds and the Wise Men for the very first Christmas.

Peter

Walking by the sea of Galilee, the hulking frame of Peter, the Big Fisherman, shelters you from a stiff wind blowing ashore.

Peter is on his journey to spread the Good News. In the plainspoken and sometimes humorous language of an Old Salt, he tells you about his calling to discipleship. He recalls, with wonder, the miraculous healings of Jesus, his own confession of faith, the transfiguration, his denial, the crucifixion, the Empty Tomb, and Pentecost. He shows you his hands -- the strong and calloused hands of a fisherman -- and explains that they are the very same hands into which his Master has entrusted the Keys to the Kingdom.

Before he says goodbye and disappears up the shore you will understand the words Christ spoke to him: "You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church!"
